RITES TO BE MONDAY FOR C. O. BORTON

CLEAR LAKE – Clarence O. Borton, 84, former Clear Lake school custodian, died Thursday evening in a Mason City hospital after a short illness. He had lived in Clear Lake at 401 1st Ave. S., since his retirement from farming in 1937.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Ward Funeral Home with the Rev. Arthur Krebs of the Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

He was born April 4, 1876, at Morrisville, Ill., to Walter and Millie Borton. They moved to Clear Lake when he was 19 and farmed for several years in Hancock and Cerro Gordo counties.

Nov. 26, 1889, he was married to Hattie Lucinda Miles at Clear Lake. They farmed in Union Township five years and then moved to Missouri, returning four years later in 1908 to continue farming in Union Township until 1937.

They then moved to Clear Lake where Mr. Borton was employed by the Farmers Lumber Yard. In 1944 he went to Alaska with the Sears Construction Co.

His first wife died in 1943 and he was married June 27, 1945, to Lizzie Borwald at Mason City. They made their home in Clear Lake where Mr. Borton was custodian in Clear Lake schools for seven years. He retired in 1952.

He is survived by his wife and two sons, Miles Borton, Clear Lake, and Walter Borton, Indianapolis; two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Millie) Grell, Harrison, Ark., and Mrs. William Wreghitt, Hanlontown, and 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

He was a member of the Congregational Church and its Men’s Fellowship.
