LESTER BISGROVE
Lester (Buck) Bisgrove, 87, of 110 S. 12th St., Clear Lake, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 1992 at the Muse Norris Hospice In-Patient Unit in Mason City. Iowa.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Msgr. Joseph J. Slepicka will officiate. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Thursday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake. A vigil wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
He was born April 18, 1905 in rural Swaledale, Iowa, one of a set of twins to George and Catherine (Glynn) Bisgrove. His father died October 1905. The family continued to farm until 1914 when they moved to Clear Lake. His mother died in 1918. He was a graduate of Clear Lake High School. On Oct. 16, 1926 he married Veronica Doyle in the chapel at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.
Bisgrove Dairy was started by the family and later Lester was active on the board which established Farmer’s Dairy. He enjoyed his business of buying and selling dairy cattle in a wide area of North Iowa and was well acquainted with local farmers.
He loved to travel and enjoyed playing cards with his friends and attending horse shows and rodeos.
He was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Clear Lake.
Survivors include: a son, Alan (Jerry) and his wife Sue Bisgrove, Algona, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Joan) Ashland, Clear Lake, and Mrs. Robert (Donna) Railsback, Terre Haute, Ind.; his twin brother, Leslie, Palm Harbor, Fla. And a brother, Walter (Doc) Bisgrove, Clear Lake; nine grandchildren, Greg Ashland, Debra Dannen, Michael Ashland, Steven Railsback, Patrick Railsback, Ann Orman, Chad Bisgrove, Jody Bisgrove and Judd Bisgrove; and nine great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Trisha Dannen, Grant, Garrett, Lauren and Megan Railsback, Brianna, Jared and Thad Bisgrove.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, Geneva Westover and Gertrude Cookman, four brothers, Arthur, Harry, John and Edward Bisgrove, and a great-grandson, Jeffrey Dannen.
