SIGVART J. OSWALD

Funeral services for Sigvart John Oswald, 88, of the Prairie View Retirement Apartments, Garner, formerly of 121 N. 15th St., Clear Lake, will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake. He died Sunday (June 3, 1984) at a Mason City hospital.

The Rev. Keith Tomlinson will officiate and burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

The family requests memorials be made to the Sigvart John Oswald Memorial Fund.

Mr. Oswald was born June 30, 1895 in Sandes, Norway, to Samuel and Justina Oswald. He came to the United States in 1914 and lived in Elmore, Minn., where he farmed. He married Martha Marie Gimre on March 14, 1918 in Frost, Minn. They farmed in the Clear Lake area until retiring in 1953 and moving to Clear Lake. After his wife’s death in 1982, he moved to the Prairie View Apartments. Mr. Oswald was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Chadd (Jennie) Baker, Clear Lake and Mrs. Swen (Inga) Nordaas, Ventura; two sons Gordon, Brownsdale, Minn., and Alf, Clear Lake; 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. Janna Gjerstal, Mrs. Melfrid Vrigie and Mrs. Rasmine Linfland, all of Sandes, Norway.

Louise Folkmann was the organist and Warren Torkelson the soloist at the service. Pallbearers were: Harold Nordaas, Arlyn Nordaas, Jon Nordaas, Alen Baker, Michael Oswald, and Mathew Oswald.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1982, his parents, three brothers, two sisters, and one son, Swen Oswald during World War II.
