JOHN WILLIAM PURVIANCE

John William Purviance, 1105 S. 8th St., died Sunday Aug. 12, at a Mason City hospital. He was 72.

Mr. Purviance was born March 14, 1907, at Paullina to John W. and Neva (Homes) Purviance. The family farmed in Kansas prior to moving to a farm northeast of Clear Lake.

He married Marie Fistler in 1928 at Mason City. They continued to farm and later moved to Mason City. They moved again to Rockford, Ill., where he worked for Gulf Oil Company for many years driving a tank truck. He retired in 1969.

His wife died in 1970. He moved back to Clear Lake in 1972.

He is survived by three sons, including Donald, Madison, Va.; Keith R., Decorah and Dale R., Cedar Falls; two daughters, Mrs. Steve (Patty) Pappas, Glendale Heights, Ill., and Mrs. Robert (Virginia) Lohmeyer, Rockford, Ill.; two brothers, Jess, Clear lake, and Floyd, Prescott, Ariz.; and five sisters, Mrs. Orlo (Clara) Ball, Prescott, Ariz.; Mrs. Brad (Lola) Cook, Hudson, Wisc.; Mrs. Everett (Allene) Hollatz, Clear Lake; Mrs. Warren (Irene) Millard, Floyd, and Mrs. Cecil (Opal) Coffin, Clear Lake. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, two daughters and two brothers.

Services for Mr. Purviance were held at the Ward-Van Slyke Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Aug. 15. Officiating at the services was the Rev. Kenneth Ubbelohde, Congregational Church. Mrs. Tom Treloar was the organist. Soloist was Mrs. Betty Becker. Pallbearers were Raymond (Pete) Cash, Kenneth Coe, Robert Buck, Robert Cash, Lloyd Humphrey, and Oscar Hughes. Interment was in Clear Lake Cemetery.
