SERVICE SET FOR MONDAY

CLEAR LAKE – Clyde K. Purviance, 51, 724 N. Federal, Mason City, died suddenly Thursday at a Mason City hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Osthus Funeral Home with the Rev. George Baker, retired Methodist Minister in Mason City, officiating. Military rites and burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home after noon on Sunday.

Mr. Purviance was born June 15, 1921, the son of John and Neva (Homes) Purviance, on a farm northwest of Mason City. He was educated in the rural schools of Cerro Gordo County and in Hanlontown.

He served in the U.S. Navy from Aug. 17, 1938 to Aug. 29, 1960. He served as cook and baker on the USS Mississippi, USS Argonne, USS Pelias, USS Yarnal, USS Boxer and on the USS Philippine Sea. He held a Bronze Star and other medals and served in World War II and the Korean Conflict, retiring with the CS 1 rating.

He was a member of the Saratoga Post of the VFW which will conduct military rites at the funeral.

Following his Navy service, he returned to Mason City where he worked as a carpenter until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, San Francisco; three brothers, John and Jesse, Clear Lake; and Floyd, Prescott, Ariz.; five sisters, Mrs. Orlo (Clara) Ball, Prescott, Ariz.; Mrs. Cecil (Opal) Coffin, Augusta, Kan.; Mrs. Brad (Lola) Cook, Hudson, Wis.; Mrs. Everett (Alien) Hollatz, Clear Lake and Mrs. Warren (Irene) Millard, Floyd.

Pallbearers will be Robert Faktor, William Trappe, Dennis Purviance, Monte Millard, Edward Hejne and James Strandquist.
