HOLD SERVICES AT WARD HOME FOR MRS. SMOKSTAD

CLEAR LAKE – Funeral services for Mrs. Fred O. Smokstad, 77, formerly of Clear Lake, who died in Des Moines Friday, were held at Ward’s Funeral Home Saturday afternoon. Dr. E. W. Day, pastor of the Congregational Church conducted the rites; burial was in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Pallbearers were P. W. Fistler, Leo Swanson, R. B. Kennedy, Frank Daker, S. P. Hansen and Steve Clark. Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Rogers arranged the flowers. Mrs. William Bickford accompanied by Mrs. Willis Miller, sang “In the Garden” and “O, Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go.”

Mrs. Smokstad was born Emma Amelia Jacobson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jacobson, pioneer residents, on a farm near Clear Lake Nov. 1, 1877. She was married Feb. 12, 1902, to Mr. Smokstad who died Sept. 15, 1949. She was a member of the Rebekah order.

Among relatives present for the rites were Mrs. Herbert Gall and daughter, Shelby, and Mrs. J. G. Porter and son, Dick, Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Smokstad, Watertown, S. D. ; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Smokstad, Tom and Douglas, Minneapolis; Miss Lillian Smokstad, Alexandria, Minn.; Mmes. Albert and Addison Jacobson, Spring Valley, Minn.; Irving, Clarence and Miss Clara Halvorson, St. Ansgar; Mrs. Mary Dahl and Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Jacobson, Mason City; and Messrs. and Mmes. Raymond Boehmke and Wetterling, Garner.

Lunch was served after the service at the Mel Jacobson home with Mmes. Rex Rule and Leo Swanson assisting Mrs. Jacobson.

Transcriber’s Note – Emma Amelia Smokstad was born November 1, 1877, died August 1954 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Section 4 Row 3. Tombstone indicates she was born 1878.
