LEONA HOWLAND

Leona Howland, 72, of 223 S. 4th St., Clear Lake, died Jan. 29, in a Mason City hospital.

She was born Sept. 14, 1910 in Woden, the daughter of Albert and Tillie Johnson. She grew up in the Woden area, and attended Waldorf Junior College in Forest City. She married Eugene Howland on May 21, 1931 in Woden. They moved to a farm northeast of Clear Lake in 1939.

Mr. and Mrs. Howland celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1981.

Mrs. Howland was a member of the Regular Baptist Church, Clear Lake.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene: two daughters, Dariel (Mrs. Donald) Neuberger of Clear Lake and Lois (Mrs. Sonny) Walker of Bondurant; a son, Donald of Duncan, Okla.; a sister, Alice (Mrs. Elmer) Hall of Albert Lea, Minn.; a brother, Gleyn Johnson of Florida; and seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Services for Mrs. Howland were held Tuesday, Feb. 1 at the Regular Baptist Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Edward Corbett officiating. Burial was in Clear Lake Cemetery. The Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Debbie Corbett was soloist and Mrs. Ron Abbas was organist at the services for Mrs. Howland. A mixed quartet consisting of Mary Wilson, Joni Warner, Loren Nihart and Richard Brookhart also provided music.

Pallbearers were Ray Humberg, Dennis Stinehart, Gary Bauer, Bill Hanson, Leo Warner, and Vernon Trettin.
