RITES HELD FOR MRS. F. VERNON

CLEAR LAKE – Funeral services for Mrs. Frank Vernon, 1009 1st Ave. S., were held Sunday afternoon at the Ward Funeral Home. The Rev. H. E. Trimble, pastor of the Christian Church, officiated and burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Mrs. William Bickford sang, accompanied by Mrs. Harry Mason at the organ. Mrs. Clifford Ellgen and Mrs. Clifford Engebretson arranged the flowers. A group from the AmVets Auxiliary, of which she was a charter member, attended the services.

Pallbearers were Bill Vernon, John Vernon Weaver and Bill Brookman and grandsons, Charles Whitney, Earl Mack and Charles Rickard.

Marcia Alada Schanck was born Dec. 14, 1885, at Fort Dodge, the daughter of Sherburn and Elizabeth Bravener Schanck. She came with her parents when a small child to Mason City where she grew to womanhood and attended the Mason City schools.

She was married to Frank Vernon at Mason City on Sept. 1, 1905. They would have celebrated their golden wedding this fall.

Survivors are her husband, two daughters, Mrs. E. J. Weaver, Chicago, and Mrs. William J. Brookman, Independence, Mo., and a son, Raymond, Benton Harbor, Mich., five grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. H. B. Dowdell, Fulton, S.D.; Mrs. Rae E. Evans, Glenwood, Ill., and Mrs. Clarence Naslund, Oneida, Ill.

Attending the funeral from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. Weaver and son, John, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Brookman, Mary and Bill, Independence, Mo.; Raymond Vernon, Benton Harbor, Mich.; Mrs. Irving Rhode and daughter, Peggy Vernon and son, Billy Vernon, Cambria, Wis.

Also attending were Mrs. Dowdell, Mr. and Mrs. Vinton Radabaugh, all of Fulton; Mrs. Steven F. Scallion, Mitchell, S.D.; Mrs. Douglas Bantz, Aberdeen, S.D.; Mrs. Evans, Glenwood, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Abkes and daughters, Jolene and Dorain, Aplington; Mr. and Mrs. Bud Stuckeburg, Frank Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. David Anderson, all of Parkersburg.

Also attending were Dilly McLaughlin, Dorothy Huey, Des Moines; Mrs. J.D. Lindsay, Floyd; and Jack Whitney, Great Lakes, Ill.

Transcriber’s Note – Marcia Alada Vernon was born December 14, 1885, died July 1, 1955 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Section 8 Row 5.
