R. H. HOLT SUCCUMBS; RITES FRIDAY

CLEAR LAKE – R. H. Holt, 87, 100 S. 9th St., died at his home Tuesday evening after an illness of three years.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in the Ward Funeral Home with the Rev. Arthur Krebs of the Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in Clear lake Cemetery.

Rufus Herbert Holt was born March 23, 1878, near rowan, the son of R.A. and Margaret (McClement) Holt. He came to a farm near the east edge of Clear Lake when 7 years old. He attended Clear Lake schools. He had farmed in the Clear Lake vicinity for 50 years and was known for his strawberry growing.

He was married to Margaret Andrews in 1909 and was preceded in death by her in November 1927. He was married to Nettie Glassel Jan. 29, 1938. They retired to town in 1940.

He was a member of the Congregational Church and the Iowa Vegetable Growers’ Assn.

Survivors include his wife, Nettie; one son, Keith, Clear Lake; two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Lila) Lassahn, Clear Lake, and Mrs. Alfred (Ruth) Zirbel, Swaledale; one step-son, L. T. Glassel, Cedar falls; one step-daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Lorraine) Stone, Phoenix, Ariz.; one niece, who was raised in the Holt home, Mrs. Lewis (Frankie Louise) Bowcock, Mason City; 25 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and two sons in infancy and four brothers.
