DEATH OF MRS. HUGH

The death of Mrs. Ashton Hugh, which occurred at her home in Clear Lake on Tuesday, October 27, was a surprise to her friends who did not know that she was in serious condition. In fact she enjoyed her usual health until four days before her death and it was only in that short time that her condition was considered critical.

Mary Haigh was born in Yorkshire, England, August 11, 1837 and came to this country with her people when she was six years old. They lived a year in Illinois and then came to Delhi, Iowa, which was their home until 1876.

On November 27, 1857, she was married at Delhi to Ashton Hugh. In 1876 Mr. and Mrs. Hugh came to this county and lived a year on the Ed Nichols farm. Then they bought in Union township and came to own a fine farm which was their home until a few years ago when they came to town leaving the boys to run the farm.

Mrs. Hugh was held in high esteem and her death will be heard of with regret in the old neighborhood and wherever she was known. She is survived by her husband and eight children.

The funeral will be held at the house to-day at 1 p.m.

Transcriber’s Note – Mary Hugh was born August 22, 1837, died October 27, 1908 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Section A Row 7.
