BARTLETT HUNTTING DEAD

The tender sympathy of this community goes out to Capt. and Mrs. G. C. Huntting who are called upon to mourn the loss of their son, Bartlett, and it fills the heart with sadness to write of the death of such a promising young man.

James Bartlett Huntting was a Clear Lake boy, born in this town December 19, 1883, the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Huntting. He graduated from our schools in the class of 1902. Then he took a clerkship in the Clear Lake Bank but it was apparent that the close confinement did not agree with him and in the spring of 1903 he went to the Lindon ranch in North Dakota. He appeared to grow stronger and coming back home he took a business course in Toland college. He accepted a clerkship in the First National Bank of Bismarck, N.D., and went there in June 1904, the general belief being that the bracing air of North Dakota would enable him to improve in health. For a time he did and the family and friends were glad to receive cheering news from him. Last winter however he grew worse but, sensitive as to his illness, kept the bad news from home as long as possible.

In the latter part of March his brother, Edward, went to Bismarck and brought Bartlett home with him. It was then seen that he had failed greatly and no improvement came. Consumption had fastened its grip upon him and the end came almost suddenly, shortly before midnight on Monday, May 29, when the heart failed to perform its functions and ceased to throb.

Funeral services, held at the house Wednesday afternoon at 3:30. Were short and simple and conducted by Rev. J. F. Moore pastor of the Congregational church. There was a large attendance and the display of flowers was beautiful.

Transcriber’s Note – James Bartlett Huntting was born December 19, 1883, died May 29, 1905 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Section 2 Row 4. Headstone states he was born December 11.
