EARL EASTMAN, FORMER CITY COUNCILMAN, DIES AT HOME

CLEAR LAKE – Earl Maxham Eastman, 64, former Clear Lake councilman, died at his home, 800 7th AVE. N., about 4:40 p.m. Tuesday following an illness of several weeks.

Mr. Eastman was born at Randall, Minn., May 8, 1889, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Eastman. He grew to manhood there and attended school in Austin, Minn., where he became acquainted with Miss Anna Spilman, Clear Lake, to whom he was married at Burchinal Oct. 9, 1912.

They made their home at Turtle Lake, Minn., a few years and then moved to a farm south of Clear Lake where they stayed until moving to their present home.

Mr. Eastman was employed to operate a filling station on his home premises for the Farmers Co-Op Gas and Oil Co., Mason City, a number of years. After that he did trucking with his son Donald. Within the past year they purchased the Eastman Clear Lake Grain Co., 814 N. 5th St., in which business he was engaged at the time of his death.

Mr. Eastman served as councilman of the 3rd Ward two terms from March 1948. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Besides his wife, Mr. Eastman is survived by three children, Donald Eastman, 812 6th Ave. S. ; Mrs. Harry P. (Carol) Baago, 1009 2nd Ave. N., and Mrs. Robert L. (Violet) White, 7 S. 20th St., Clear Lake; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Leon Eastman, Waubay, S.D. and four sisters, Mmes. C. P. Christensen, Sam Johnson, Arthur DeWald and Ralph Hardy, all of Auburn, Wash.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, James, and a granddaughter, Janrt Rose White, who died Oct. 28, 1940.

Funeral arrangements are in complete pending word from distant relatives. The Wilcox Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Dean, Loyd and Dale Spilman, Duane Holmes, Max Hugh and Glenn Westover. Mmes. Westover and Cecil Cox arranged the flowers. Miss Eleanor Schoonover sang, accompanied by Mrs. Harry Mason.
