VERN BARLOW

CLEAR LAKE – Vern W. Barlow, 77, of Clear Lake, died Saturday (Sept. 19, 1992) at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1992, at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Murley Severtson officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery, with military honors by the Clear Lake V.F.W.

Visitation is after 3 p.m. Tuesday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake. The family suggests memorials to Vern W. Barlow Memorial Fund.

Mr. Barlow was born March 9, 1915, in Clear Lake, the son of Jim and Nettie (VanHorn) Barlow. He attended school in Clear Lake. He served in the Army during World War II. On Jan 7, 1935, he married Marion Spilman at Mason City.

He worked for the Iowa Terminal Railroad for 29 years as a mechanic, retiring in 1977.

He belonged to Zion Lutheran Church and Clear Lake V.F.W.

Survivors include four sons, the Rev. Vern Barlow Jr. and his wife, Janet, of Bruning, Neb., Kaye L. Barlow and his wife, Connie M., of Tempe, Ariz., Stephen Barlow and his wife, Connie J., of Mason City, and Roland (Ron) Barlow of Clear Lake; one sister, Mrs. Gennevieve Wood, Coffeyville, Kan.; one brother, Dale Barlow, Clear Lake; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, two sisters, and one granddaughter.
