MRS. J. C. WARTON RITES WEDNESDAY

CLEAR LAKE – Mrs. J. C. Warton, 71, 2615 S. Lakeview Drive, died Monday afternoon at a Clear Lake nursing home where she had been for the last four years. She was the widow of the Rev. Joseph C. Warton, Methodist minister, who died in 1958.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist Church with Dr. John E. DeLong officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery. The Ward Funeral Home is in charge.

Luella Schiltz Warton was born Sept. 2, 1890, at Rockdale, the daughter of John and Ellen Ogle Schiltz. She was educated in the Rockdale schools and was a seamstress for several years in Dubuque.

She was married to Mr. Warton in October 1918 at Center Grove Methodist Church near Dubuque where he was pastor.

Following several years there they lived in succession at Masonville, Fredericksburg, Geneva, Jesup, East Dubuque, Ill.; Eppworth, Elgin and Genesco, where Mr. Warton served churches.

He retired in 1949 and they lived at Gilman one year where he served one year of active retirement. He retired in June 1950 and they moved to their Clear Lake cottage.

Mrs. Warton was a member of the Methodist Church and Women’s Society of Christian Service and a former long-time member of the Dubuque Eastern Star.

Survivors are one son, John, Clear Lake; one daughter, Mrs. W. H. (Ella) Shambaugh, Des Moines, and three brothers, J. Harry and Oliver Schiltz, Dubuque, and Howard Schiltz, California, and seven grandchildren.

Transcriber’s Note – Luella Warton was born September 2, 1890, died January 23, 1961 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Section A Row 9. The headstone reads Louella as being born September 1, 1889.
