HOLD RITES FOR J.W. SPARKS, 88
BORN IN JANESVILLE, WIS., IN 1850; LIVED IN IOWA 65 YEARS

CLEAR LAKE – Funeral services for J. W. Sparks, 88, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Siesseger, North Elm Street, Monday night of the frailities of age, were held at the home of another daughter, Mrs. Ray Sandry, 414 West Division Street, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. The Rev. J. B. Calhoun, pastor of the Congregational Church, conducted the rites and burial was in Clear Lake Cemetery. Ward’s Funeral Home was in charge.

Mrs. D. E. Kenyon and Mrs. Arleigh Eddy, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Harry Mason, sang “In the Garden” and “Shall We gather at the River” as part of the service. Pallbearers were D.E. Kenyon, John Siesseger, Charles Pinckney, C. A. Comstock, Ed Rich and Ned O’Neill.

John Wesley Sparks was born in Janesville, Wis., on Aug. 19, 1850, and when a young man moved with his parents to Morris, Ill., where he lived until he came to Iowa in 1873.

In 1875 he was married to Miss Sarah Jane Brayton, who died May 1901. Mr. and Mrs. Sparks were the parents of three daughters, Myra, who died Jan. 10, 1905, Mrs. Sandry and Mrs. Siesseger.

Mr. Sparks lived in and around Clear Lake and for several years owned and operated a fruit farm 3 miles south of town. Since the death of Mrs. Sparks he has made his home with his daughters.

Besides his daughters he is survived by four granddaughters, Mrs. Hugh Biddinger, Rockwell, the Misses Eloise and Corinne Sandry, Clear Lake, and Miss Jean Siesseger, Lewis.
