SPILMAN RITES SET FOR FRIDAY

CLEAR LAKE – Funeral services for Harry Spilman, 85, will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the Ward Funeral Home, with the Rev. Arthur Krebs, pastor of the Congregational Church, officiating, Burial will be in Clear lake Cemetery.

Mr. Spilman died Tuesday morning in a Mason City hospital where he had been a patient for 2 ½ weeks.

He was the oldest settler in Union Township, having lived in that vicinity all his life as farmer and cattle feeder.

Harry Spilman was born Nov. 11, 1880, southwest of Clear Lake, a son of Daniel and Thea (Anderson) Spilman. He was married March 9, 1910, to Ada Crozier. They farmed until 1929 when they moved to Clear Lake. In 1931 they returned to the farm. Mrs. Spilman died Oct. 6, 1936.

Oct. 2, 1942, he was married to Anna (Katz) Spilman. He is survived by his wife, Anna; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Irene) Nichols and Mrs. Roy (Luceal) Scott, both of Clear Lake; three step-children, Loyd A. Spilman, Clear Lake; Mrs. Vern (Marion) Barlow, Mason City, and Mrs. Shirley (Elsie) Coe, Ventura.

He is also survived by two brothers, Dan Spilman, Clear Lake, and Tom Spilman, Mason City; three sisters, Mrs. Earl (Annie) Eastman, Clear Lake; Mrs. Chester (Kate) Johnson, Dupree, S.D., and Mrs. Clare (Lillie) Holmes, Nora Springs, 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers selected are all nephews, Dale Spilman, Orval Spilman, Deane Spilman, Max Hugh, Donald Eastman and Duane Holmes. The organist and soloist will be Mrs. Henry Volstad and Mrs. Donald Goranson. Flowers will be arranged by Mrs. Ernest Buss and Mrs. Maurice Miles.

The family suggested any memorials be given to the Congregational Church building fund.

Transcriber’s Note - Harry Spilman was born November 11, 1880, died December 28, 1965 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Section E Row 7.
