E. E. BUTZ, 75, SUCCUMBS

CLEAR LAKE – Earl E. Butz, 75, farmer living north of Clear Lake, died Friday afternoon at his home following an illness. He operated the Butz Economy Grocery in Clear Lake for 19 years and in the 1940s retired to his farm home.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Wilcox Funeral Home. The Rev. Carl Sentman, pastor of Grace Baptist Church, Mason City, will officiate. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Earl Edwin Butz was born Feb. 14, 1883, in Butler County, the youngest son of the Rev. Mrs. Henry S. Butz. His father was an Evangelical preacher at Hampton, Meservey, Belmond and Lakota City during his childhood.

Mr. Butz started to farm at Meservey and later opened a general store there. He was married to Alice Paul of Clear Lake Feb. 22, 1921. They moved to Clear Lake and went into the grocery business shortly afterwards.

Surviving him are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Clyde (Idella) Smith, Glendale, Calif., and Mrs. Vincell (LaVonne) Ott, Santa Monica, Calif.; two sons, Arnold, Waveland, Miss., and Marlyn, Clear Lake, and five grandchildren.

One brother, Dr. J. A. Butz, Los Angeles, and a sister, Mrs. A. L. Gambrill, Palo Alto, Calif., also survive. One infant son and a brother preceded him in death

Mr. Butz was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, Mason City.
