JOHN “JACK” EVANS

CLEAR LAKE – Funeral services for John “Jack” Evans, 50, of 109 Beach Drive, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church.

Mr. Evans, a dedicated member of the Clear Lake Volunteer Fire Department, died Thursday (Dec. 13, 1984) at a Mason City hospital after collapsing at the scene of a fire. He also served as public information officer for the Fire Department.

The rev. James Louk will officiate at the service and burial will be in Clear lake Cemetery. Visitation is after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake. The family requests any memorials be made to the Jack Evans Memorial Fund.

Mr. Evans was born July 6, 1934, in Newton to John and Dorothy Evans. He graduated from Newton High School in 1953 and was a member of the All-State football team that year. He continued playing football while attending Iowa Wesleyan College at Mount Pleasant. After serving in the Navy, he attended the University of Iowa.

He married Robbie Robson on Dec. 31, 1959, in Des Moines. Mr. Evans traveled worldwide for 15 years while working in dental sales. The family moved to Clear Lake in 1975 from Hammil, Minn. He was employed by Sperry Univac in Clear Lake.

An active participant in the community, Mr. Evans was a past president of the Clear Lake Booster Club; officiated at football, basketball and baseball games in the area; headed up the Jerry Lewis Telethon in Clear Lake for many years; and was a member of the United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Robbie; two daughters, Elizabeth and Angela, both of Clear Lake; a son, Mark, of Clear Lake; his step-father, Thomas Partridge, Minneapolis; a sister, Mrs. Ron (Cindy) Phelps, Mason City; and a step-brother, Thomas Partridge IV, Minneapolis, Minn.
