ETHEL MAUDE BUSS

CLEAR LAKE – Mrs. Ethel Maude Buss, 93, of 1312 First Ave. S., died Monday (Aug. 17, 1992) at the Corydon Care Center in Corydon, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Congregational Church in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Charles Williams officiating. Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation is after 7 p.m. Thursday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth. The family suggests memorials to First Congregational Church or the Clear Lake Library.

Ethel Buss was born May 20, 1899, in Goodell, the daughter of Gilbert Ora and Andromeda “Secor” Miner. She graduated from Garner High School in 1919 and then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught rural school in Hancock County and Cerro Gordo County.

She married Ernest William Buss on Dec. 23, 1923, in Clear Lake. They farmed until their retirement in 1968.

She was a member of First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, Women’s Fellowship, DAR, American legion Auxiliary, PEO, Sister Hood-Chapter LE, SOROSIS Club, Library Reading Club, Rebekahs, County 4-H Club Committee and was a 4-H Leader. She loved to sew, garden and read.

Survivors include two daughters, Virginia and her husband, Kenneth Ireland, Corydon, and Arlene and her husband Roger Rust, Sheffield; seven grandchildren, Dorene McCart, Mark Ireland, Gail Ireland, Ronald Rust, Martin Rust, Julie Barkela, Annette Rust; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois and her husband Lawrence Miles, Spirit Lake; one brother, Gilbert Miner, Floyd, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one great-grandchild, two sisters and two brothers.
