MRS. EVA ATKINSON, 78, DEAD AFTER MONTH’S ILLNESS; TWO SONS SURVIVE

CLEAR LAKE, APRIL 21 – The death of Mrs. Eva Atkinson which happened at 8:30 o’clock Sunday night at her home on South Third Street, was a shock to the community. She had been ill for the past month. About three weeks ago she was considered in a serious condition and then she rallied. She was thot to be out of danger for the time being. Had she lived until Thursday, she would have been 78 years old.

Eva M. Dominy Atkinson was born at West Chazy, N.Y., April 24, 1852. After marrying John Atkinson Sept. 21, 1873 at Plattsburg, N.Y., she went and her husband resided at West Chazy until 1879 when they moved westward, locating on a farm southwest of Clear Lake. They resided here until 1910 when they moved to her present home. Mr. Atkinson preceded her in death in 1911.

Five children were born to them: Callie, Frances, a baby who preceded her in death, and William, Cherokee in death, and Walter, Clear Lake. Four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive her.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday afternoon at the home on South Third Street, at 2 o’clock and at the Methodist Church at 2:30 o’clock. The Rev. J.R. Tumbleson will officiate.

RITES HELD FOR MRS. ATKINSON
OLD LAKE RESIDENT DEAD; SURVIVED BY TWO SONS

CLEAR LAKE, APRIL 23 – Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Atkinson, 78, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist Church preceded by a short service at the home at 2 o’clock. The Rev. J.R. Tumbleson officiated at the services. Burial was made at the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Mrs. Atkinson died Sunday evening after a month’s illness, gradually growing weaker until the end came. She was born in New York state. She and her husband, John Atkinson, settled on a farm near Clear Lake. Twenty years ago they moved to their present home on South Third street, where her husband died a year later.

Two sons, William, Cherokee, and Walter, farmer near Clear Lake, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren survive her. Out-of –town persons attending the funeral were Dr. and Mrs. Elton Alder, Forest City, and Miss Williams, Decorah.
