OLE C. ASHLAND, 82, BURIED; OUT-OF-TOWN RELATIVES ATTEND RITES

CLEAR LAKE – Funeral services for Ole C. Ashland, 82, who died at his home, 100 West Benton Street, Friday afternoon following an extended illness, were held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Thomas B. Collins, pastor, in charge. Williams Funeral Home made the arrangements.

Mrs. L.E. Jacobson, accompanied by Mrs. Harry Mason, sang “Abide With Me” and “Lead, Kindly Light.” Mrs. Verne Peterson and Mrs. Oscar Thompson arranged the flowers.

Pallbearers were M.N. Nelson, Walter Atkinson, S.J. Ott, Peter Knutson, Ed Rushia and Frank Daker.

Mr. Ashland was born July 24, 1857, at Eggedal, Norway, and left his home there April 28, 1879. He arrived in New York City May 19 and at Clear Lake May 24.

He was married to Miss Helga Narveson at Clear Lake Dec. 21, 1882, and the couple lived on a farm south of Clear Lake until 1913 when they moved to the home on Benton Street where Mrs. Ashland died April 12, 1934.

Surviving are four sons, L. E., D. E., Anders and Irving Ashland; two daughters, the Misses Mary and Crystal Ashland; a brother, Gunder C. Ashland, 13 grandchildren and many nephews and nieces, all living in the vicinity of Clear Lake.

Others are two sisters, Mrs. J.K. Overgaard, Ventura, and Mrs. Christi Gutterud, Thief River Falls, Minn., and a brother and sister at the old home in Norway. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother and sister in Norway.

Mr. Ashland was a member of the Masonic and Eastern Star orders.
