ASPLIN – At his home in this city, on Friday morning, March 15th 1895, Abraham Asplin, aged 76 years, 9 months and 5 days
Abraham Asplin was born at Huntington, England, June 10, 1818, where he grew to manhood, and Nov. 12, 1850, he was united to Eliza Warner, who survives him. In 1856 he came to America with his family and located in Union Grove, Racine County Wis., where he commenced as a pioneer farmer, his capital consisting of a courageous heart and a pair of willing hands. In 1874 the family came to Clear Lake and bought a farm one mile east of town, where they lived until a few years ago when they moved into town.
The life of Abraham Asplin was one worthy of emulation, for we believe it was as near perfect as mortal is capable of attaining. In 1864 Father Asplin united with the Methodist Church, retaining his membership up to the day of his death, and he passed from this life, surrounded by his family, at peace with the whole world and happy in the promise of a life to come. He was a man of strong convictions, always firm in the advocacy of right and relentlessly opposed to evil, yet he granted to all the right of their opinions, and admired the good qualities of others without regard to professions or creeds.
Opposed to outward display himself, he always avoided publicity in his doings, taking more pleasure in performing a charitable act in private, than in making a display to be seen of men.
His was a life well lived, and happy in the knowledge that every duty had been most faithfully performed, his last hours were spent in perfect contentment, and his parting words were expressions of comfort and cheer to the loved ones left behind.
The funeral from the residence was largely attended and the remains were laid to rest in the Clear Lake Cemetery.
