Mason City, Cerro Gordo County, IowaObituary - Tony Otto Schneiderman
June 08, 1912 ~ October 16, 2012Tony Schneiderman passed away peacefully Oct. 16, 2012, at the Monticello Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, at First United Methodist Church, Thornton, with Pastor Crystal Oberheu presiding. Interment will be at Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton. Visitation will be one hour before the services at the church.
Tony Otto Schneiderman was born on a farm near Ackley on June 8, 1912, to Reint and Anna (Schroeder) Schneiderman. Tony grew to manhood on the family farm.
After the death of his father in 1935, being the oldest child, Tony assumed many of the family support responsibilities for his mother, six brothers and two sisters. He enlisted in the Army April 12, 1942. During most of his World War II service, he was stationed on Umnak in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska, on leave from the 159th Infantry into the Army Engineers.
Tony married Pearl Schlampp Nov. 8, 1944, on Pearl's parents' farm near Dumont. Following his discharge from the service in February 1945, he began working for Allison Hardware. In April 1947, DuWayne was born to Tony and Pearl.
The family moved to Thornton in 1949 where they owned and operated an electrical, plumbing and heating business until 1962 when Tony's health dictated his reducing his work load. He then did electrical work until his retirement in 1993.
Tony served on the Thornton Town Council for 14 years, some of this time as the Mayor Pro-Tem. He was a former member of the Lions. He had been an active member of the First United Methodist Church, having transferred his membership from the Associated Church in Allison in 1949.
Pearl passed away in 2007. In 2009 Tony moved to Monticello to live with DuWayne and Marilyn where a special room had been built on to their home for him by DuWayne and grandsons Garrick and Brock. He enjoyed petting their cats and dog and watching the birds from his room and front porch.
In September 2012 he moved to the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after several falls and hospitalizations. He was cared for by their kind staff, receiving regular visits by DuWayne and Marilyn who lived nearby until his passing.
Tony is survived by his son DuWayne and wife Marilyn, grandsons Garrick and Brock; sister: Alice Lupkes; and brother: Bob.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Tommy in infancy, Eddy in World War II, Bill, Reint, John, and Herman and sister: Ann Asche.
We will remember Dad for his creative and quality work and his quiet gentleness.
