Irene attended the local schools, graduating from the high school in the class of 1937. During this time she had been active in the Luther League of her church and also in 4-H club work.

After her graduation she attended Iowa State College at Ames, majoring in home economics education. She graduated in March, 1942, receiving her bachelor of science degree.

She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Floy, three brothers -- Merlin, Vernon, and Lee, one sister, Ruth Ann, as well as a large group of other relatives and a host of friends.
