Obituary - Gene Brosdahl
April 15, 1927 ~ March 03, 2012

Gene was born April 15, 1927, on a farm near Joice, Iowa, to Thomas and Alvina (Tweed) Brosdahl. He attended and graduated from Fertile Consolidated School. After graduation he was drafted into the Army. Following his discharge he worked for the Navy Department at Arlington, Virginia. He returned home and started farming.

On December 5, 1954, Gene was united in marriage with Dorothy Pihl. They farmed until 1965 when they purchased the Lime Rock Café in Fertile. In 1967 they purchased a farm north of Joice, then in 1970 they moved into Joice and he worked for Standard Oil Fertilizer until 1975.

In 1975 Gene and Dorothy moved to Thornton to manage and later purchase a fertilizer plant in Swaledale. Gene also worked for a short time at Winnebago Industries in Hampton. He retired in 1989.

Gene's greatest prize was his grandchildren. He was a devoted husband and father, traveling to the Sheffield Care Center every day to visit Dorothy when she lived there.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Alan (Debra), Lexington, S.C., and Jody (Dawn), Gretna, Neb.; grandchildren, Morgan, Mason City; Tad (Shelby), Fort Lewis, Wash.; and Trent, Gretna, Neb.; and brothers and sisters and sister-in-law.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy, in October 2011; son, Dwight; brother, James Brosdahl; and brother-in-law, Jim Duff.
