THOMAS FLATEN

Funeral services for Thomas Flaten, 47, 503 17th St. W., were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th St., Clear Lake. Mr. Flaten died Friday (July 12, 1985) at a Clear Lake nursing home. The Rev. Keith Tomlinson officiated and burial was in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Mr. Flaten was born Sept. 23, 1937 at Joice, the son of Norance and Gladys (Bergo) Flaten. He attended school in Albert Lea, Minn., and worked for the Woolworth Co. in several locations. He later worked for Ben Franklin Corp. office.

He married Mary Ann Kastzung on Oct. 11, 1959 at Albert Lea. In 1971, they moved to Clear Lake where Mr. Flaten worked with Les Nelson in the leasing business and in building shopping malls.

Mr. Flaten was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday School and was a former church board member. He was a former member of the National Guard, Albert Lea.

The family requests that memorial be given to Handicap Village in memory of Thomas Flaten.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann; one daughter, Melisa Flaten Clear Lake; one son, Steve, a daughter-in-law, Cathy Flaten, Minneapolis; one sister, Mrs. Bob (Jevonne) Budach, Glenville, Minn.; and one brother, Clair Flaten. Minneapolis, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and an aunt and uncle, Esther and Nels Sorbol.

Active pallbearers were : Les Nelson, LeRoy Hollatz, John Miller, Milford Knutson, Roger Amosson and Or Ordean Oakland. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Peterson, J.D. Nelson, Mary Ellen Martin, John Cobb, Orlan Larson, and Ralph Schroeder.

Organist for the service was Mary Jane Reynolds with Paul Anderson as soloist. Carl Solberg gave a reading of the “Lord’s Prayer” in Norwegian and Ralph Schroeder gave the eulogy.
