RUTH ELIZABETH FANKELL

CLEAR LAKE – Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Fankell, 94, formerly of Clear Lake, died Tuesday (June 8, 1993) at her daughter’s home in Winchester, Va.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Bernard Olson officiating. Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to Handicap Village, Clear Lake.

She was born March 31, 1899, in Webster City, the daughter of Nicholas F. and Laura E. (Rutledge) Christenson.

She was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Tina Rebekah Lodge, Royal Neighbors, past president VFW Auxiliary 4867 and Clear Lake Senior Citizens. She served as a musician for many of those organizations. She served on the advisory board of RSVP and was presented its Senior Citizen of the Year Award. She also worked with the sewing group at Handicap Village.

She is survived by three daughters, Wauneta F. Schegogue, Winchester, Va., Virginia Fankell Butler, Keizer, Ore., and Wilma Fankell Garfin, Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; seven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, William B. Fankell; and one grandson, David Berry in Vietnam.
