CARL ENGDAHL

CLEAR LAKE – Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th, Clear Lake, for Carl Engdahl, 83, of Clear Lake. He died Sunday (May 10, 1987) at a Clear Lake nursing home.

The rev. Keith Tomlinson will officiate and burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 this afternoon at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th, Clear Lake. The family requests memorials be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.

Mr. Engdahl was born March 27, 1904, in Ironwood, Mich., to Charles and Amelie (Magnuson) Engdahl. He moved to Cloquet, Minn., in October 1908 and graduated from Cloquet High School in 1923. He also attended the University of Minnesota.

Mr. Engdahl was a bookkeeper at his parents’ food market in Cloquet until 1941 when he moved to Clear Lake. Then he, his sister and brother-in-law, Harold and Ruth Jorgenrud, started the Ben Franklin Store in Clear Lake. In 1962, Mr. Engdahl sold his interest in the store but continued to work there until retiring.

Mr. Engdahl was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a former member of the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Harold (Ruth) Jorgenrud, Clear Lake, and Mrs. Eunice Kleckner, San Diego. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
