MRS. FRANK P. WALKER DIES AT 70

CLEAR LAKE – Mrs. Frank P. (Bernice) Walker, 70, Oakwood Park, Clear Lake, died suddenly early Saturday in a Mason City hospital following a heart attack.

Arrangements are incomplete at the Ward Funeral Home. Services are tentatively set for Tuesday. Visitation at the funeral home will be after 3 p.m. Monday.

Bernice Walker was born Jan. 1, 1897, near Webb, Iowa, the daughter of Horace and Mary (Richardson) Speer. The family later moved into Webb where her father was an implement dealer.

She attended school at Webb and was graduated from Sheldon High School. She attended one year at Morningside College, Sioux City, and later was graduated from Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, with a physical education degree.

Mrs. Walker taught physical education at the YWCA in Clinton and was married to Frank P. Walker Jan. 17, 1920, in Iowa City

The couple came to Clear Lake and had made their home here since. She is survived by her husband and one son, Robert F., of Madrid, Spain. He is expected to arrive in Clear Lake by air late Sunday.

Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Ira Gabrielson, Oakton, Va., and Mrs. Guy Gabrielson, Bernardsville, N.J. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Mrs. Walker was a member of the Methodist Church, the WSCS, Twentieth Century Club, PEO, Civic League and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Transcriber’s Note – Bernice Walker was born January 1, 1897, died April 22, 1967 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Section B Row 4.
