BURIAL AT CLEAR LAKE
BODY BROUGHT FROM HIGHMORE, S. DAK.

CLEAR LAKE – Private funeral services for Erastus Cornell, 83, who died at Highmore, S. Dak., Dec. 25, were held at the Wilcox funeral Chapel Thursday afternoon. Doctor E.W. Day, pastor of the Congregational church, conducted the rites and burial was in the Richardson family lot in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Harold Miller, Arthur Johnson, Albert Christenson and Curtis Fiske. Mrs. R.A. Monaghen, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Harry Mason, sang “Sometime We’ll Understand,” “Abide With Me” and “Lead Kindly Light.”

Mr. Cornell was born Dec. 22, 1866, at Clearville, Pa. He lived there until 10 years of age when the family moved to Marshalltown, Iowa, where he was graduated from high School in 1886. In November 1898, he was married to Miss Edith Richardson of Clear Lake.

Mr. Cornell served as deputy county auditor of Marshall county 11 years and then 4 years as auditor before moving to Highmore where he purchased an abstract business which he conducted for 37 years when ill health forced him to retire.

Mr. Cornell was baptized in the Lutheran faith but later communed with the Congregationalists.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Judith Richardson, Chicago, who attended the services.
