GLADYS O’DEA

CLEAR LAKE – Gladys “Molly” O’Dea, 86, of Clear Lake, died Sunday (June 7, 1992) at Oakwood Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., with a 7 p.m. scriptural wake service. Memorials may be given in her name.

Gladys “Molly” O’Dea was born Aug. 28, 1905, at New Hampton, a daughter of Reuben and Dora Bridgett (Norton) Harbaugh. She attended high school at St. Joseph Academy, Des Moines.

She was employed as a legal secretary at Stillman Law Firm, Clear Lake. On Sept. 5, 1925, she married Robert F. “Red” O’Dea at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City.

She was an active member and past president of Clear Lake Woman’s Club and St. Patrick’s Guild. She prepared the altar linens for St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, where she was a member for many years. She was also treasurer and a member of the board of directors of the Clear Lake Meals on Wheels program. She was an avid golfer.

Survivors include one Niece, Frances Fay, North Hollywood, Calif.; two nephews, Robert Schuetz, Van Nuys, Calif.; and James O’Dea, Des Moines; one sister-in-law, Gladys Luckey, San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; and one brother-in-law, James C. O’Dea, San Juan Capistrano, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert “Red” O’Dea; one sister, Georgina Schuetz; and one brother, George Harbaugh.

Transcriber’s Note – Although this obituary states Gladys “Molly” O’Dea was born in 1905 the headstone in the Clear Lake Cemetery (Section F Row 5) has the birth date as 1902.
