DEATH OF A FORMER RESIDENT

News of the death of Will Baker at a hospital at Kansas City on Wednesday of this week came as a shock to the community, as it was not known that he was sick, in fact little had been heard of him since he left here about seven years ago, and his relatives did not know of his whereabouts until about a week before his death. A letter written at his dictation came from there making no mention of the seriousness of his case. A few days later word came that he could live but a short time and his brothers were preparing to go to him when a telegram announcing his death arrived. Frank Baker and A.N. Wood immediately left for Kansas to bring the remains here.

William H. Baker was born in Monticello, Wis., Nov. 8, 1858, and was the youngest of five children. He was married in 1879 and six years later moved with his family to Lake Township to the farm now owned by J.C. Doyle, where he remained till seven years ago, when he sold the farm to Mr. Doyle and shortly afterward went to Dakota. During his long residence here he came to have the reputation of being one of the foremost farmers of Lake Township and was its assessor for several years.

His health failed him nearly a year and a half ago and at that time he entered the Kansas City hospital, remaining until his death.

Mr. Baker was the father of six children; Lyle, who died in North Dakota and was buried here; Ethel of Calgary, Canada; Faye of Mason Gussie and Nell of Pendleton, Oregon; and Arthur of Springfield, Ill. He is also survived by brothers , Frank and Addison, and his sister, Mrs. A.W. Wood, of this county, and another sister, Mrs. Searles, of Fayette, who was unable to be present at the funeral on account of illness.

Funeral services were held at the Frank Baler home east of town Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. F.B. Stafford, and they were largely attended. Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery. The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved ones.

NOTE – William H. Baker was born November 8, 1858, died February 28, 1912 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery Section A Row 2.
