SERVICES FOR RETIRED CLEAR LAKE FARMER

Funeral services for Ray M. Baker, 83, who died Friday at a local nursing home were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Methodist Church in Clear Lake with the Rev. Worthie K. Usher of the First Methodist Church and the Rev. Murley A. Severtson of the Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery with Ward-Van Slyke Funeral Home in charge.

Ray Miles Baker was born in Monticello, Greene County, Wis., Sept. 10, 1884, the son of Benjamin F. and Annie (Miner) Baker. When he was 3 ½ years old, the family moved to a farm five miles east of Clear Lake (Bakers Corner).

He attended rural grade school and was graduated from Memorial University in Mason City. In 1914 he was married to Maytie Cobb and they remained on the family homestead farming. Mrs. Baker died in 1948, and Mr. Baker continued farming with his son, Frank, until retiring and moving into town in 1966.

He was very active in the Farm Bureau and the Farmers Co-operatives of Clear Lake, having served on the boards of both.

He is survived by his two children, Mrs. Reuben (Madge) Brandau, Rudd, and Frank Baker, Clear Lake; four grandchildren and one great grandchild and one sister, Mrs. Vivian Haight, Mason City. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers and one sister.

Pallbearers selected were Glenn Westover, Hans Henriksen, Lloyd Johnson, Virgil Knorr, Russell Walls, Oscar Myers and Gilbert Luker. Honorary pallbearers serving were George Edgington, R.D. Robbins, Robert F. Furleigh, Lloyd Crozier, E.B. Stillman, J.D. Richardson, James H. Ransom and Henry T. Erickson. Car escort was F.P. Walker.

Ushers were Graham Lawyer and Max Smith. Mrs. Virgil Knorr and Mrs. Oscar Myers were in charge of flowers. The organist was Mrs. Harry Mason, and soloist was Mrs. L.M. Treloar.

NOTE – Ray Miles was born September 10, 1884 and died 1968.
