MARY ELLEN FABER LUDWIG

Mary Ellen Faber Ludwig, 99, Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. A Memorial Mass was held Monday, Aug. 23, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Early, Iowa with Msgr. Kenneth Seifried officiating. Inurnment will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Mary Ellen Ludwig Memorial Fund.

Mary Ellen was born in Wall Lake, Iowa, the daughter of James and Christina (Cossman) LeStrange. She was raised on a farm near Wall Lake where she attended school. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Cherokee, Iowa. She married William H. Faber in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Wall Lake. They moved to Early in 1929 where they operated Faber's Restaurant for 60 years. He died in 1966.

Mary Ellen married Irwin Ludwig in 1968. After Irvin died she moved to Clear Lake to be close to her son. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America for over 50 years, a member of Sacred Heart Guild all her married life, Women's Club, ATC Bridge Club for 70 years, she bowled for 30 years, was a 500 club member, played in women's golf league 29 years and played in bridge clubs. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Mary Ellen is survived by three children, Richard Faber, Ft. Dodge, Iowa, Jerry Faber, Clear Lake, and Pamela Ryan, St. George, Utah; 13 grandchildren, Don Faber, Mike Faber, Chuck Faber, Doug Faber, Carol (Greg) Jennings, Sue (Matt) Larson, Bill (Christina) Faber, Ellen (Kevin) Miller, Steven (Angela) Faber, Dan (Dawn) Ryan, Tim (Kari) Ryan, Collene (Bob), Katie Ryan; 25 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; son, Don Faber; two husbands; four sisters; four brothers; son-in-law, Dave Ryan; and daughter-in-law, Marie Faber.
