LEONARD L. MANSON

Leonard L. Manson, 80, of 1 3rd Street, Ventura, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

His funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 12, 10 a.m., at the Evangelical Free Church, Clear Lake, with Pastor David Wiersbe and Pastor Randy Vaage officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Britt, Iowa, where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be directed to the Leonard L. Manson Memorial Fund.

Leonard was born Sept. 13, 1921 in rural Manchester, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Emma (Swanson) Manson. He graduated from Dundee High School and then worked as a hired man from 1939 until 1942. Leonard served in the United States Navy during World War II. For 38 months he served as a cook while stationed in the Hawaiian Islands. After his discharge, he again worked as a hired man from 1947 until 1949. Leonard was united in marriage to Alice Madson on June 5, 1948 at the Evangelical Free Church in Britt, Iowa. They farmed in Delaware County from 1949 until 1970. In 1970, Leonard moved with his wife to Clear Lake to become the managers of the United Methodist Camp. They retired after managing the camp for 14 years.

Leonard enjoyed gardening, flowers, bird watching, and reading. He also liked to watch sports and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings fan. Leonard was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Clear Lake.

Leonard is survived by five children, Lance A. Manson and his wife, Jan, of New Hampton, Iowa, Craig L. Manson and his wife, LeAnn, of Edgar, Wis., Neal P. Manson and his wife, LaRee, of Marathon, Wis., Lenice A. Lee and her husband, Daniel, of Huxley, Iowa, and Sherilyn S. Theel and her husband, Darin, of Forest City, Iowa; ten grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and three brothers, the Reverend Harold Manson and his wife, Jean, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Kenneth Manson and his wife, Betty, of Dallas, Texas, and Elmer Manson and his wife, Doris, of Manchester, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Alice, on June 8, 2001.
