JAMES "JIM" MEYER

CLEAR LAKE - James "Jim" Meyer, 77, of 907 12th Ave. S., Clear Lake, died Monday (March 1, 2010) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 5, at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Clear Lake VFW.

Private graveside services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, at a later time. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Friday at the church. Family suggests memorials to Zion Lutheran Church or KCMR.

Jim was born Nov. 3, 1932, in Garner, the son of Alvin and Arlis (Gielser) Meyer Sr. He graduated from Ventura High School in 1952.

Jim married his childhood sweetheart, Marilyn Hoel, Sept. 16, 1952.

He served in the Army during the Korean War and was discharged in 1956. After the service he moved to rural Clear Lake where he farmed and raised turkeys.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake Noon Lions, Iowa, National Turkey Federation, was a Lake Township trustee, drainage district trustee, Cerro Gordo Mutual Insurance, Farmers Co-op Gas and Oil and a lifetime member of Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn "Jo" Meyer, of Clear Lake; daughter Candy Pitkin and her fiancé, Dan Vasquez, of Clear Lake; sons, Brad (Nancy) Meyer of Apple Valley, Minn., and Tim Meyer of Clear Lake; one very special granddaughter, Kathryn Meyer, of Apple Valley, Minn.; sisters, Mari (Carroll) Albers of Garner and Boni Prignitz of Garner; brother, Bob (Jan) Meyer of Mason City; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother Alvin Jr. and brother-in-law, Virg Prignitz.
