CLAUD M. HAIN

VENTURA - Claud M. Hain, 86, of 105 E. Lake St., Ventura, died Sunday (Oct. 7, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Services are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ventura United Methodist Church in Ventura, with the Rev. Paul Hasel officiating. Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. at the Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, and then one hour before services at the church. The family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.

Claud was born Jan. 15, 1915, in Rockford, Iowa, the son of Clarence F. and Clara M. (Spofford) Hain. He attended rural school in Rockford. He farmed in the Rockford area and later hauled freight. Dorothy Hain was the mother of their children.

Claud married Lavon Meinders on Nov. 28, 1981, in Ventura. He was the first Ventura police officer. He later drove school bus for Ventura School and was also their bus mechanic for many years.

Claud enjoyed fishing, traveling, camping, visiting with people, going to auctions, riding horses, calling square dances and gardening.

Claud is survived by his wife, Lavon Hain, of Ventura; three children, Clara Frank, of Mason City, Joan Jones and her husband, Gene, of Kansas City, Mo., and Mary Nutting and her husband, Larry, of Aitkin, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Shirley Basgall Hain, of Mason City; three stepchildren, Linda Beier and her husband, Roger, of Mason City, Richard Meinders and his wife, Fran, of Manly, and Larry Meinders and his wife, Lorri, of Mason City; sister- in- law, Viola Hain, of Nora Springs; 14 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Marshall Jene Hain; son-in-law, Joseph M. Frank; three sisters, Margaret Berk, Bernice Koehler and Bessie Theilen, and two brothers, Wilbur and Floyd Hain.
