SAM A. SORENSEN FUNERAL IS FRIDAY

CLEAR LAKE – Funeral services for Sam A. Sorensen, 83, who died Wednesday at Independence, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church. The Ward Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pastor Harold McGowan will officiate. Mrs. Richard Barnes will be organist and Mrs. Harold McGowan, soloist. Ushers will be Charles Hill and Marinus Mortensen. Pallbearers selected are E.B. Stillman, M.A. Arneson, Dallas Clapper, Huston, Ouverson, Burton Prestholt and C.N. Prestholt. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Sam A. Sorensen was born Aug. 15, 1881, to Mikkel and Louise Sorensen at Veddum, Denmark. As a young man he came from Denmark to the United States and to Clear Lake where he worked for the railroad division of the Peoples Gas & Electric Co.

He was married to Julia Halverson July 2, 1903, in the Congregational Church. They lived in Emery for a short time before moving to Mason City where he was an engineer on the Milwaukee Road. After that they moved to Oklahoma where he was in the business of constructing oil wells and leasing of oil lands.

In 1920 they returned to Clear Lake where they have since lived. In 1926 Mr. and Mrs. Sorensen visited Denmark and in 1953 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mrs. Sorensen died in 1960.

Two nephews, Michael and Otto Laursen, both live in Portland, Ore., and a sister-in-law, Gertrude Bice, in Clear Lake

NOTE – Sam A. Sorensen was born August 15, 1881, died January 1, 1965 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery Section 3 Row 2.
