Obituary - Marian J. (Bruce) Long
November 21, 1923 ~ March 20, 2012

MASON CITY - Marian Bruce Long (Mrs. Kenneth), 87, of 909 Sixth St. S.E., died Sunday (April 6, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. There is no visitation. The body was cremated. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor's choice in her memory.

Marian Bruce Long was born Nov. 1, 1909, in Indianapolis, Ind., the daughter of Howard and Charlotte Reed Bruce. She moved to La Crosse, Wis,. at the age of 13, where she graduated from high school. She graduated from Monticello Seminary in Godfrey, Ill., and Indiana University. She moved to Mason City from Joliet, Ill., in 1934 and was married to Kenneth F. Long in 1935.

Marian was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a longtime member of O.T. Study Club, a 50 year member of P.E.O. Chapter DZ and a charter member of Chapter KW. She did community work and served on the board of directors for the YWCA and Women's Club.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth F. Long, of Mason City; two sons, Bruce K. Long and his wife, Diane, of Evansville, Ind., and Richard E. Long and his wife, Deanna, of Riverside, Calif.; a daughter, Janet Long Ford and her husband, Robert, of Albuquerque, N.M.; six grandchildren, Nancy Long Spivey and her husband, Michael; Brian Long and his wife, Amy; Cindy Long, Andy Long, Wendy Long and Danica Ford Wright and her husband, Rick; and one great-grandson, Maxwell A. Long.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.
