Obituary - Ronald E. Hayes
January 25, 1941 ~ November 11, 1971

Funeral services were held Monday for Ronald E. Hayes, 30, 2907-1/2 S. Lakeview Dr. The Rev. James S. Kratz officiated at 11 a.m. in the Christian Church.

Mr. Hayes was found dead of a gunshot wound Thursday evening. The Ward-Van Slyke Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers were John Warton, Joe Scott, John Moon, Jack Christopherson, John Amos and Roger Carpenter. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Hayes was born Jan. 25, 1941 in southern Iowa, the son of George and Anna Mae (Wimpsett) Hayes. The family moved to Mason City in 1951 and he was graduated from Mason City High School in 1958. He also attended Mason City Junior College and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1964.

He was married to Mary Bottger in 1963 and they had since lived in Clear Lake.

Upon discharge from the Air Force he was employed by the Dwyer Flying Service and for the last three years had worked for the Percy Construction Co., Mason City.

He is survived by one daughter, Kristie, 7; a son, Michael, 2; a brother, Richard E. Hayes, and a sister, Mrs. Wayne (Denise) Anderson, both of Clear Lake; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Wimpsett, Keota; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Lela Hollingsworth, Waterloo.
