CLEAR LAKE - Helen Margaret Anderson, 94, 400 Highway 18 W., Clear Lake, died Tuesday (Dec. 8, 2009) at Oakwood Care Center.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at Clear Lake Christian Church, 302 Highway 18 W., Clear Lake, with Pastor Scott Wilson officiating. Interment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Memorials may be given to the Christian Church or the Clear Lake Senior Citizen Center.

Helen was born Nov. 15, 1915, in Dayton, Texas, the daughter of Chauncey and Alice (Eyestone) Merwin. They moved to Des Moines in her teens and to Clear Lake in the mid-1930s. Helen married James S. Anderson Jr. on Nov. 29, 1942, at the Christian Church, Clear Lake.

Helen tutored numerous students in math, Sunday school and taught vacation Bible school. She loved to work word puzzles, was an excellent seamstress and taught herself to knit. She loved to sing, especially the old hymns. She was an avid sports fan, especially going to baseball and basketball games where she was known for her loud whistling.

Helen attended the Christian Church and was a member of the Mother's Study Club.

Helen is survived by two children, Sally Anderson, St. Paul, Minn., and Don Anderson, Belle Plaine; seven sisters; two brothers and several nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband (in 1984); two sisters and three brothers.

Arrangements are with the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, 641-357-2193.
