SHAY, 16, FALLS, DIES SUDDENLY

CLEAR LAKE –William R. Shay, 16, died instantly from natural causes at about 12:40 a.m. Thursday in an alley near Beach Drive.

Dr. Joseph Christopherson, Cerro Gordo County Coroner, said Thursday that Shay’s death was due to natural causes and that further laboratory tests were being made to determine the exact cause of death.

Dr. Christopherson said that circumstances of the death indicate a possible heart condition.

Shay was running up the alley from Witke’s dock toward the Camp Grounds.. He was with Curtis Hanson and Larry Gretillat, both of Clear Lake. The youth running behind Shay told Dr. Christopherson that Shay suddenly collapsed. He died immediately.

Dr. Christopherson said the boys had been drinking soft drinks and talking before running up the alley.

William Richard Shay is the son of Dean and Ruby Shay, 623 7th Ave. N.. The youth was born June 27, 1943, at Thompson. He had attended Clear Lake schools. Besides his parents he is survived by two brothers, Jim and Tom, and a sister, Connie, all at home; and his grandmother, Mrs. Joy Shay, New Ulm, Minn.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Wilcox Funeral Home.

NOTE - William Richard Shay was born June 27, 1943, died June 16, 1960 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery.
