Frank S. Swed Sr.

Frank S. Swed Sr., 307 Ninth St. N. W., died Sunday (June 1, 1997) at his home.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Kremer and Chuck Cooper, deacon, officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, with a flag folding ceremony by the Mason City Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave., with a 7 p.m. Scripture Wake service and a 7:30 p.m. Knights of Columbus Rosary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Frank S. Swed Sr. Memorial Fund or Hospice of North Iowa.

Frank was born in Krakow, Poland, son of Michael and Eva Sweet.

Frank served in the United States Navy during World War II.

He learned the upholstery trade while in Minneapolis. He was founder and former owner of Federal Upholstery for over 60 years.

He was a master of his trade and took great pride in his work.

Frank was a gentleman with a great sense of humor and he enjoyed photography and spending time with his family.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Elks Lodge #375, American Legion Post #701, VFW Post #733, Knights of Columbus and was a 3rd and 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Swed, of Mason City, two daughters, Peggy Solberg and her husband, Vaughn, of Mason City and Ruth Pidick of Denver, Colo.; one son Frank Swed Jr., and his wife Connie, of Carlsbad, Calif.; nine granddaughters; one grandson; six great-grandsons; four great-granddaughters; one sister, Rose Moravetz, of Clearwater, Fla.; one brother, Tony Sweet of Lake Forest, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
