DR. J. C. WRIGHT DIED THURSDAY
PASSED AWAY THURSDAY MAY 14 - FUNERAL RITES HELD SUNDAYDr. J. C. Wright, one of Clear Lake’s prominent physicians, after a few days illness with a severe attack of hiccoughs died at his home on North Fourth Street on Thursday afternoon at 5:30 o’clock.
Dr. John Casey Wright was born in Lancaster, Ky., February 26, 1851, and moved to Bloomington, Ill. with his parents in his youth. At the age of 21 he went to live with his sister and her husband, Dr. and Mrs. Nichols, Osage, where he studied medicine and attended the Cedar Valley seminary. He later was graduated from the Rush Medical college at Chicago and began practicing in Forest City. After a few years he settled in Clear Lake.
On October 26, 1879 he was united in marriage to Agnes McLaughlin.
Dr. Wright has been prominent in all affairs of Clear Lake for the advancement of all educational and industrial pursuits and especially was interested in Masonry, being one of the board of five that was responsible for the erection of the Masonic Temple on north Fourth street. He served as worshipful master of the local lodge three years and also in the other official capacities. He was one of the men reently honored at the Masonic golden jubilee and received recognition as a member of the lodge fifty years.
He was active in church work in all its departments.
His service as a physician in the city and community is outstanding. Always patient and self-possessed, the most trying and critical cases called forth his most supreme efforts without outward signs of weariness or discomfort.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon, May 17 at 2:30 o’clock conducted by Dean A. M. Haggard of the Church of Christ of Mason City, assisted by Rev. J. R. Tumbleson, pastor of the Methodist Church. Mrs. A. H. Runcie and Mrs. D. E. Kenyon sang a group of favorite hymns.
The pallbearers were medical men with whom Dr. Wright had been associated. They included Dr. W. E. Long, Dr. C. L. Marston, Dr. G. M. Crabb, Mason City; Dr. A. B. Phillips, Dr. E. L. Wurtzer and Dr. N. W. Phillips.
Burial was made in the Clear Lake Cemetery. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Jackson and a niece, Mrs. Myrtle McCormick, of Kansas City. A number of out-of-town friends attended the funeral.
The wealth of flowers which covered the casket and banked the alter bore silent tribute to the high esteem in which Dr. Wright was held.
