MRS. C. HARMS, 65, DIES; RITES WED.
DECEMBER 7, 1878 - JUNE 18, 1944

Funeral services for Mrs. Charles A. Harms, 65, were held at the Wesley Methodist church in Mason City, Wednesday afternoon at 2, with Rev. Paul Peterson officiating. Burial was in Mt. Vernon cemetery. The Williams funeral home was in charge.

Pallbearers were James Barlow, Tom Barlow, Herbert Fuller, Albert Fuller, Mervin Wood and E. R. Nelson. Mrs. Peterson sang three selections during the service, “In The Sweet Bye and Bye,” “When They Ring The Golden Bells” and “Sweeter Than All.”

Mrs. Harms has been in failing health for the past year. On Sunday June 11, she was taken to a Mason City hospital as a result of a fall at her farm home in Mt. Vernon township, where she lived with her son Lyle. She died at the hospital Sunday morning, June 18, at 1:15, following a heart attack.

Mrs. Harms was born Mary Louise Johnson, daughter of J. P. and Augusta Johnson, in Bath township, Dec. 7, 1878. She grew to womanhood in that vicinity and was married to Mr. Harms, Dec. 16, 1896. Mrs. Harms went immediately to the farm home where she lived 39 years. She lived in Mason City for nine years then moved back to the farm home.

Mrs. Harms’ husband preceded her in death four years ago. He died March 25, 1940. She is survived by two children; one son, Lyle, at the home place and a daughter, Mrs. Selena Miller, Mason City. Nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive. Mrs. Harms is also survived by three brothers, Charles, Jesse and M. O. Johnson of Mason City. A sister, Mrs. Edna Barnowsky, Sturgeon Bay, Wis. Two sisters preceded her in death.

Mrs. Harms was a member of the Wesley Methodist church and was a member of a rural home demonstration club. Mrs. Loraine Paulsen, of Elgin, Ill., granddaughter, has been staying with Mrs. Harms since March, 1943. Mrs. Paulsen’s younger sister, Mrs. Geraldine Bobek, of Mason City has been staying there the last 11 months.
