HORACE J. KIRK

CLEAR LAKE - Horace J. Kirk, 88, of 611 S. 14th St., died Sunday (March 2, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Agape Christian Family Church, 2810 Highway 18 West, West Delta Park, with the Rev. David Toyne officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln Township Cemetery, rural Fertile.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Horace J. Kirk was born Sept, 1, 1908, at Heddinger, N.D., in a sod house, the son of homesteader parents, James and Emma (Luken) Kirk.

He was united in marriage to Golda Severson on May 24, 1936, at the Church of Christ in Fertile.

Horace was a farmer for many years. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and making lawn ornaments. He was an avid reader. Horace especially enjoyed geneology, searching out his lineage and family history.

One of Horace's favorite things to do was to visit with people and tell them about his Lord. He was a devoted Christian and enjoyed witnessing his faith to others.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Golda Kirk, Clear Lake; one daughter, Patricia Turner, Omaha, Neb.; two sons, James Kirk and his wife, Linda, Lakeville, Minn., and Sam Kirk and his wife, Linda, Alpharetta, Ga.; six grandchildren, Randall Turner and his wife, Sandy, Portland, Ore.; Rodrick Turner and his wife, Katie, Memphis, Tenn.; Roberta Turner, Omaha, Neb.;
Chris Kirk and his wife, Augusta, Crystal, Minn.; Kristen Kirk, Alpharetta, Ga., and Kari Kirk, Lakeville, Minn.; one great-grandchild, Derick Turner, Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Elaine Hall, Clear Lake, and Lorraine Hall, Lake Mills; many nieces and nephews; and many many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William and Frederick; and one sister, Iva Suby.
