GRETA E. BLACKMORE KLEIN
CLEAR LAKE - Greta E. Blackmore Klein, 92, of 710 N. Tenth St., died Saturday (May 6, 2000) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Thomas Healey officiating. Inurnment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, is in charge of the arrangements. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Greta E. Klein Memorial Fund.
Greta was born Aug. 24, 1907, along with her twin sister, Gretchen, the daughters of Ned and Mary Emily (Cobb) Blackmore, on the family farm north of Clear Lake. She attended country school until the age of 11 when her family moved into Clear Lake to live. She graduated from Clear Lake High School.
Greta worked at Rath Packing Plant in Waterloo. She married John E. Klein in Texas and they lived in Waterloo until 1949 when they moved to Clear Lake. They owned and operated Klein's Grocery in Clear Lake until 1953.
Greta enjoyed playing golf, playing bridge, crocheting, making many lap robes for people, reading and was a great storyteller. Words cannot express the pride and devotion the family feels for her. She was a gentle, loving spirit with a strong sense of family and private faith in God. She never spoke ill of anyone and she was always willing to help anyone in need. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake.
Greta is survived by her daughter, MaryKaye Blackmore Johnson, Clear Lake; two granddaughters, Molly Suzanne Blackmore Johnson and Sarah Kathleen Johnson, both of Clear Lake; a nephew, Allan Petersen and his wife, Sharon, Clear Lake; and two cousins, Dean Moffett and his wife, Virginia, Clear Lake, and Dr. Roger Winans and his wife, Dorothy, Prairie du Sac, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John E. Klein; and her twin sister, Gretchen Sybil Petersen.
