Stella Marie Thompson, 98, formerly of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011
at Muse –Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa. A funeral service was
held Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Richland Lutheran Church, Thornton, Iowa with the Rev.
Samuel Schmeling officiating. Interment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in memory of Stella Thompson to the Richland Lutheran
Church, Thornton, or Bethany Lutheran College, Mankato, Minn.

Stella was born Nov. 7, 1912 in Williams, Iowa the daughter of Ole J. and Minnie
(Hall) Halsne. She graduated from Hanlontown High School. Stella married Jonas
H. Thompson on May 17, 1941 in Fertile, Iowa and to this union two daughters
were born. Stella and Jonas farmed in the Thornton area. She was a member of the
Richland Lutheran Church in Thornton. In retirement they moved to Clear Lake.
She moved to Apple Valley Assisted Living in 2004.

Stella enjoyed gardening, playing card games and baking. After retiring she
loved to travel. Reading her Bible was a very important part of her daily
devotions.

Stella is survived by her daughters, Sharon Wood and her husband, Stephen, St.
Augustine, Fla. and Myrna Neis and her husband, Bob, Mason City, Iowa; five
grandchildren, Melissa (Herbie) Douglas, Jacksonville, Fla., Heather (Fernando)
Febres, Orlando, Fla., Rebecca (Doug) Legan, Linden, N.C., Rhonda (Brad) Weber,
Osage, Iowa and Jason Neis, Story City, Iowa; four great-grandchildren, Daniel
Wood, McKenna Legan, Ella Legan and Noah Febres; brother, Lawrence (Peggy)
Halsne, Clear Lake; sisters-in-law, Elaine Halsne, Mason City, and Helen Halsne,
Clear Lake; her sister Irene’s children, Burke and Muriel Haberkamp and family,
Garner, Iowa and Merle and Joan McMullin and family, Manly, Iowa and several
other nieces and nephews.

Stella was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jonas (1979); sister,
Irene McMullen; and four brothers, Joseph, Oline, James and Milton Halsne.
