Wayne Wilcox, 89, 608 North Shore Dr., Clear Lake, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003
at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. A memorial service will be held Friday,
Oct. 10, 11 a.m., at the United Methodist Church, 508 2nd Ave N., Clear Lake,
with Pastor Fanny Hansen and Elders Cliff and Wanda Hagman, officiating.

Visitation with the family will be at 10 a.m., one hour prior to the service. A
private inurnment was held at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be given to
the Community of Christ Church in lieu of flowers.

Wayne was born July 29, 1914, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Arthur and
Hattie (Sales) Wilcox. He worked with his father for 27 years in the grocery and
meat market business there. He married Nellie Irene Leonard on Aug. 24, 1936 in
Logan, Iowa. They moved to Clear Lake in 1952 where he bought Wilcox Furniture
from his brother, Wendell. He operated it until his retirement in 1996, but
still enjoyed going down and visiting in the store. Wayne loved to go fishing
and traveling, enjoying the winters they spent in Mission, Texas. His hobbies
included gardening, fishing, polishing his car and most of all, his work at the
store.

Wayne was involved with the Clear Lake Business Development Corp., Retail
division and former board member of the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.
Wayne was the Grand Marshall of the Fourth of July parade in 2001. He was a
member of the Masons and Shriners, was involved with IFCA and joined the Clear
Lake Noon Lions in 1953. In Lions Club, he served as Director in 1969; first,
second and third vice president and President in 1973. He was awarded the
distinguished Melvin Jones Award. In 1973, he received a citation from the
Minnesota Furniture Salesman Club in recognition of his consideration, courtesy
and friendliness.

Wayne was a member of the Community of Christ Church, Clear Lake. He was
ordained a teacher in 1958, and Elder in 1962. He served in the local
congregation, and as District Bishop.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Nellie Wilcox, Clear Lake; daughter, Janelle
Sargent and her husband, Dale, Clear Lake; two grandchildren, Jennifer Moore and
her husband, Bruce, Scottsdale, Az. and Jeff Sargent and his wife, Heather,
American Fork, Utah, and two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Stephen Moore.
Wayne is preceded in death his parents; a brother, Wendell Wilcox and his wife,
Lucille.
