Marian R. Caspersen Ashland Grimm, 69, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, May 18,
1997 at North Iowa Mercy Health Center's East Campus, Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday), May 21, at 1:30 p.m. at the
Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess and Rev. Kermit
Roisen officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake.

The family suggests memorials to the Zion Lutheran Church and the Leukemia
Society.

Marian was born Aug. 12, 1927 in Rockwell, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Mary
(O'Rourke) Caspersen. She graduated from Rockwell High School in 1945.

On Jan. 25, 1949 she married Virgil Ashland. The couple farmed until his death
in 1977. She and Virgil had five children.

In 1967, Marian became a licensed cosmetologist. She operated Marian's Beauty
Shop for a number of years. Her work experience also included working as an
instructor at Capri School of Cosmetology in Mason City, Iowa, as well as
working as an instructor at Capri School of Cosmetology in Mason City, as well
as working with Ruth Toppin, and later with her daughter, Jane, at the Mane
Salon and Hair West, both in Clear Lake, until her retirement in January 1996.

In 1982, she and Jay Grimm were married and continued to reside south of Clear
Lake until her death following a brief illness.

She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.

She is survived by her husband, Jay Grimm, of Clear Lake; five children, Susan
Hrubes and her husband, Marvin, of Woodbridge, Va., Jim Ashland, Tom Ashland
and his wife, Georgia, Jane Ashland Trayers and Tim Ashland and his special
friend, Katie Donnelly all of Clear Lake; her father, Paul Caspersen,
Rockwell, Iowa; two brothers, Louis Caspersen and his wife, Ceciela, of
Houston, Texas, and Leon Caspersen and his wife, Irene, of Clear Lake; a
sister, Phyllis Wickwire, or Rockwell, Iowa; three step-children, Lowell Grimm
and his wife, Carrie, of Lakeville, Minn., Douglas Grimm of Clear Lake, and
Chris Grimm and his wife, Mary, of Bettendorf, Iowa; eight grandchildren,
Matthew and Lisa Hrubes, Christopher and Jeremy Ashland, Amber Ashland, Leigh,
Danielle and Ashley Trayers; six step-grandchildren, Tommy and Hannah Grimm,
Delisha Ransom,

She was preceded in death by her first husband; her mother; and a sister,
Mercedes Doolan.
